Name:  YOUNG, Edgar Aaron   b: 1877 Peterborough  d:
Address: Old Station Road, Newmarket: Flatman Street Newmarket: 1921 at 3 Queensbury Buildings Newmarket and Church End, Moulton.
Working Dates: 1911-22
Subjects, styles, advertising, other relevant information: Edgar was the son of a wheelwright and in 1891 lived in Monument Street, Peterborough, with his father, mother and two siblings. He was employed as an errand boy. In 1901 Edgar was boarding in Stoke Newington and his occupation was shown as a wheelwright. In 1911 the census shows Edgar living with his wife Jessie b:1873 Whittlesey Cambs at 41 National Flatman St, Newmarket. He was a photographer, an employer working from home and his wife assisted in the business. In the 1921 Census Edgar and his wife, Sarah Ann, were living at Church End, Moulton. Edgar described his occupation as "Photographer Maker", an employer, working from 3 Queensbury Buildings Newmarket. The 1921 Census lists Mabel WOOLLARD as Edgar's employee. In the 1939 Register Edgar is shown as a photographer and joiner, living at 21 Alfred Street, Preston Lancs. Below is a postcard backed portrait of an unknown mother and child c. 1920. On the reverse is an oval rubber stamp with the text: "Photo by E Young Flatman Street Newmarket". There is also a number stamp from a rubber stamp numerator on the reverse with the number "1021". Below this are two postcard format portraits by Edgar Young - these could all be of the same family taken at different times about three years apart. The only identifying features on these two are the details of the photographer on the face beneath the image "E.Young Photographer Newmarket" (Images from Peter Norman's collection.). The Novelty Photo Co appears to have operated from Flatman Street around 1914. It is not currently known if there was any connection between Edgar Young and the Novelty Photo Co.
